Casey Crawshaw Represents Compassus at NHPCO

Compassus was represented by Casey Crawshaw, Hospice Director of Quality Outcomes, at the 2023 NHPCO Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas this week. Casey has been coordinating our Clinical Ethics Committee at Compassus since 2021 and started serving on NHPCO’s Ethics Advisory Council this year. She started speaking at conferences about developing and maintaining Ethics Committees for Hospice, Home Health, and Palliative Care a year ago. In her presentation, she discussed the foundational philosophies of hospice and their focus on the patient’s values and morals. She reviewed the history of ethics committees in the United States, the lessons we learned from them, and the laws that fueled the expansion. Casey also uses the foundational philosophies and history to outline a modern ethics committee, including roles and responsibilities, and how to formulate conversations by identifying the ethical principle involved.
