The Compassus program serving Denver and the surrounding areas hosted a wedding ceremony for a hospice patient’s daughter on Sunday, July 31. The ceremony took place at the patient’s residence, Autumn Heights Health Care Center, part of the Vivage Corporation family of communities.
Jaime Rendon, the father of the bride, suffered from end stage liver disease and had been under the care of Compassus for several weeks until his passing on Thursday, August 4. His dream to watch his daughter Monique marry the love of her life was granted just four days prior.
“A common misconception about hospice is that it is all about dying, when in fact it is truly about living,” said Mandy Hager, Executive Director at Compassus – Denver. “By moving up her wedding date and holding the ceremony at her father’s place of residence, Monique ensured that he would be a part of this very special occasion.”
Compassus Social Worker Morgan Lemp and Hospice Care Consultant Liz Hatfield worked alongside Autumn Heights employees Laura Wilner and Deb Garner to coordinate the ceremony and party, which took place in the nursing home’s courtyard. Wedding planner Jerri Line also offered her services to guarantee the day went off without a hitch.
“We are grateful to have been a part of the Rendon family’s celebration,” continued Hager. “We know this day created lasting memories they can keep close for a lifetime.”
