For Renee Wurth, in Paducah, KY, home health wasnโt her original career path, but it quickly became her passion. She began her career as an outpatient physical therapist, initially transitioning to home care as an opportunity to move closer to family. What she discovered was a deep appreciation for home health and the impact it allows providers to make.
โI found that the team was very supportive, and I was able to use every one of my trained skills,โ Renee said. โWhere else can you use creativity to create environments in a patientโs home that directly impact them, rather than trying to simulate or make something up?โ
For seven years, Renee worked directly with patients in their homes, treating a variety of conditions and helping individuals regain independence. She valued the ability to assess patients in their real-life environments and apply objective therapy skills to improve their daily interactions.
Her career then evolved into leadership, where she shifted her focus from direct patient care to improving processes, technology and communication. Now, as a Home Health Executive Director, her goal is to support field staff by reducing administrative burdens, enhancing care coordination and ensuring patients receive the most effective and efficient care possible.
โHome care allows you to see your impact as a provider firsthand and build a foundation for improvement in a patientโs healthcare system,โ Renee said. โIf you want to have meaningful patient care and be able to see your impact, this is where you want to be.โ
