The Compassus hospice program serving Green Bay, Wisconsin and surrounding communities recently received a special surprise from a local club—a donation of homemade holiday cookies! The aim? To sweeten the holiday and spread cheer to those in hospice care.
Initially expecting 8 dozen cookies, the program was thrilled to find out they received a whopping 12 dozen! Each dozen was carefully wrapped and packaged with love, ready to bring smiles and joy to the patients and families in need of some extra holiday sweetness.
Compassus Volunteer Coordinator, Regan Krueger, took on the task of delivering these delightful treats. With determination and kindness, Regan set out early in the morning, embarking on a 350+ mile journey to ensure each of the 12 different Compassus families received   their share of cookies.
The first stop was at Compassus hospice patient Mark Beilfuss’s home, where the cookies were greeted with excitement. Mark, accompanied by his wife and their furry friends (who got special dog treats!), happily enjoyed their cookies with their morning coffee. It was a wonderful start to the day, filled with gratitude and smiles.
Another recipient and patient, Alice Erickson, had a heartwarming story. She used to volunteer at her local church, making and delivering holiday cookies to those who couldn’t make them or had difficulty leaving their homes. Regan felt touched by the opportunity to reciprocate this kind gesture, bringing back the joy that Alice had spread for many years.
This act of kindness from the cookie club not only brought happiness to the Compassus patients and their families but also echoed the spirit of giving that Alice had embodied in her own volunteering efforts.
The generosity of a cookie club and dedication of Regan to ensure each family received their share of holiday cheer truly exemplify the spirit of the season and our mission to advance well-being and honor quality of life. It’s these simple yet meaningful gestures that remind us of the importance of spreading joy and kindness, especially during the holidays. Hats off to the cookie club and Regan for making this holiday season a little sweeter for our patients.
