Care Moment – Dream Family Vacation

Care Moment: Dream Family Vacation

Care Moment Dream Family Vacation

At Compassus, we believe in the philosophy of ‘Care for Who I Am,’ which emphasizes recognizing and honoring the unique stories and wishes of our patients. Our Stevens Point, Wisconsin hospice program, alongside the Hospice Angels Foundation, has truly embodied this philosophy in their unwavering dedication to our patients and their families.

One touching example of this dedication is the story of Linda Brunzell, a remarkable woman whose dream of a family vacation was brought to life through the compassion and effort of our team. When our hospice social worker first visited Linda, her family shared the many adversities she had faced in her life. Despite her challenges, Linda had accepted her recent cancer diagnosis with grace and resilience.

When asked about her most important wish, Linda expressed a heartfelt desire: she wished for a vacation with her entire family. She had never experienced a vacation where her whole family was together. Our hospice social worker took Linda’s wish to heart and brought it back to the Stevens Point team. Together, they began working alongside Linda’s family and the community to make this dream a reality.

A grant was written to the Hospice Angels Foundation, which provided Linda and her family with an all-inclusive, stress-free week at a beautiful lake house in central Wisconsin. The community’s generosity didn’t stop there; several additional donations were acquired to cover all the meals for the week, ensuring Linda and her family could fully enjoy their time together.

For Linda, this vacation was filled with many firsts: her first family vacation, her first boat ride, and her first family photo session. Overwhelmed with joy, Linda shared that she had never experienced such love and kindness as she did that week. Surrounded by her loved ones, Linda was able to put her cancer diagnosis aside and live fully in the moment, creating precious memories that will stay with her family forever.

Linda’s story is a testament to the profound impact of compassionate care and community support. It highlights the extraordinary efforts of our Stevens Point hospice team and the Hospice Angels Foundation in bringing joy and comfort to those we serve. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved in making Linda’s wish come true and for their continued dedication to our mission to advance well-being and honor quality of life. Most importantly we thank Linda and her entire family for the privilege and honor of being part of your journey.

At Compassus, we are committed to caring for the whole person, honoring their unique wishes, and creating moments of joy and peace. Linda’s story is just one of many that illustrate the power of compassion and the importance of our philosophy, ‘Care for Who I am.’
