A Mother’s Wish: Celebrating Life’s Milestones

We honor what matters most to our patients and their families at Compassus. For Imelda Werner, that meant witnessing her son Karl’s high school graduation and her daughter Jordan’s college graduation. With her health declining, she feared missing these milestones—but our Dekalb, IL team and the Compassus Living Foundation made sure she didn’t.
With help from both schools, we arranged early ceremonies, complete with faculty, diplomas and loved ones—including family who traveled from out of state and even Ireland to surprise Imelda. The most touching moment came when Jordan, who had been secretly taking voice lessons, performed Oh Danny Boy for her mother. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
With cakes, balloons and keepsakes provided by the Foundation, the day was filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. Imelda and her husband, Roy, were overwhelmed with gratitude, knowing she got to see her children’s achievements firsthand.
At Compassus, we don’t just provide care—we create moments that matter.
At Compassus, our value is in the compassion and expertise of our teams, which act as an extension of patients’ existing care teams. We believe everyone who interacts with us should experience our individualized Care for who I am philosophy, from the care services we provide to patients and families to how we interact with our partners and one another.
