Care Moment: Volunteer Nancy Russell
Meet Nancy Russell, an extraordinary Compassus volunteer from our Indianapolis hospice program who has dedicated 11 years of her life to supporting patients and their families. As you will learn, Nancy’s role might not always be in the spotlight, but her contributions are invaluable.
Her work involves preparing supplies for nurses who care for patients both in facilities and at home. This might not seem like much, but by organizing these supplies, Nancy ensures that nurses have more time to focus on what truly matters – spending quality moments with their patients.
But Nancy’s generosity doesn’t stop there. She has a passion for gardening and shares the beauty of her garden with those in hospice care. Bringing flowers from her garden to inpatients and their families is her way of brightening their days, reminding them they are not alone on their challenging journey.
As the seasons change and her garden fades with winter’s arrival, Nancy adapts. She started painting cards to continue spreading joy and letting patients and families know that they’re in her thoughts. It’s a small gesture, but it means the world to those receiving her heartfelt creations.
Nancy is part of a team of quiet heroes at our Indianapolis hospice program. Together, they bring a multitude of gifts, easing the passage for patients and their families as they navigate the final chapter of life. Her dedication and kindness have made a lasting impact on the lives she touches.
Nancy’s story is an inspiration, showing how even small acts of kindness can make an undeniable difference in someone’s life. If you’re inspired by Nancy’s story and want to make a difference too, consider becoming a Compassus volunteer.
