Compassus Austin Team Demonstrates 'Care for Who I Am' Culture in the Face of Adversity
In a true display of compassion and solidarity, the Compassus Austin team recently exemplified their ‘Care for Who I Am’ culture when one of their own faced a harrowing ordeal. When a fellow team member was involved in a serious car accident, the close-knit team rallied together to ensure she received the care and support she needed for recovery.
The incident occurred outside of work hours, but the response from the Compassus team was nothing short of remarkable. Kathy Grubbs, Compassus Hospice Director of Quality Outcomes III, shared the details of the team’s swift action. “One of our team members was involved in a serious auto accident… Her car was totaled, but thankfully, she only had a small injury to her hand.”
Despite the circumstances, the Austin team wasted no time in coming to their teammate’s aid. A leader from the team rushed to the accident site to pick her up and accompany her to the emergency room for care. Meanwhile, another Hospice Care Consultant stayed by her side in the hospital, ensuring she felt supported and cared for during her time of need.
But the support didn’t stop there. Grubbs revealed that many team members reached out to express their concern, with some even delivering food to her doorstep. The outpouring of love and support from her colleagues left a lasting impact on the affected teammate, who later expressed gratitude for being “wrapped up in love” by the entire team.
Grubbs reflected on the experience, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing care and support for one another, especially in times of crisis. “It does cause you to become aware of your own mortality… It was beautiful to see how the team worked as one unit to make sure one of their own was taken care of. It was truly ‘Care for Who I Am’ in action.”
The story serves as a powerful reminder of the strength of compassion and camaraderie within our Compassus community. Even outside the boundaries of work, the team’s unwavering dedication to each other exemplifies the true essence of their values. As Grubbs concluded, it’s a message for all of us to live out our values and continue supporting one another with compassion and empathy.
