Honoring Our Veterans with Compassion and Service
On October 26, 2024, a group of Compassus team members volunteered at the New Orleans Veterans Medical Center for the annual “Stand Down for Homeless Veterans” event, an initiative held across the U.S. to support veterans in need.
Honoring the Life of Jeffrey A. Tomczak
Recently, one of our treasured hospice patients, Jeffrey A. Tomczak, from our Fort Washington, Pennsylvania program, passed away, at the age of forty-four, after a courageous 15-month battle with occupational cancer.

One such hero is Mr. J.P. Tew, a Vietnam Era Veteran who served our nation with distinction. Mr. Tew’s remarkable journey includes serving as a Navy Corpsman during the Vietnam War and later joining the Marines.
A Heartfelt Tribute by Compassus
Peter, a Marine enlistee in the 1960s, faced an unexpected turn in his military journey. After just one day of service, Peter was honorably discharged due to a medical condition. Despite his brief tenure, Peter’s desire to serve his country never waned. He often expressed his wish to have contributed more significantly, embodying the true spirit of a veteran.

On December 13th, we celebrate the National Guard’s birthday, acknowledging the sacrifices of our past and present soldiers. Patricia “Faith” Nelson Eagles, hospice on-call registered nurse at Compassus, is a National Guard Veteran who shares how these two sides of her life have shaped who she is today.
Chris Michalski
Staff Sergeant Chris Michalski is currently part of our Marshfield, Wisconsin, Infusion team, serving as the Warehouse Coordinator. Chris has been a part of the Compassus team since May of 2019, and he also faithfully served in the Air Force National Guard for 14 years as an Emergency Manager for the General Mitchel Field Milwaukee, WI, 440th Civil Engineering Squadron Wing.

This past Veterans Day the Compassus hospice program serving Neenah, Wisconsin and surrounding areas had the privilege of performing a ‘We Honor Veterans’ pinning ceremony to recognize the service and sacrifices of 29 residents at New Perspective Senior Living Island Shores Living Community.
Lou Unfried
In the heart of Branson, Missouri, Compassus had the honor of celebrating a true American hero and patient, Mr. Lou Unfried, who recently turned a remarkable 102 years young. In addition to celebrating a life-well-lived, Compassus had the immense privilege of performing a We Honor Veterans Pinning Ceremony.

Our Davenport, Iowa hospice program had the privilege of performing a ‘We Honor Veteran’s Pinning Ceremony at Assisted Living & Memory Care facility, Addington Place of Clinton earlier this month. The pinning ceremony honored Air Force Veteran Robert Farwell, U.S. Army Veteran Richard Carstensen, and Coast Guard Veteran Tom Lackiewicz.
