Anita Bonds, licensed professional nurse for the Compassus program serving Jackson, Mississippi, has received the organization’s highest individual honor for her passion and integrity. Bonds was awarded the company’s prestigious Carlos Burruel Compassus Core Values Award for 2021.
Bonds represents the Compassus core values of compassion, integrity and excellence every day through her commitment to the company’s mission to treat those at the end of life with dignity and high-quality care.
“Anita exemplifies the Compassus care delivery model, focusing on each person as an individual as well as a patient. She puts her heart into her work and treats each and every patient like family,” said Compassus CEO Jim Deal. “In her two-year tenure with Compassus, Anita has made an extraordinarily lasting impact on every person she encounters, including her patients, their loved ones and her fellow colleagues. This recognition is well deserved and we are proud to have her represent Compassus.”
Bonds’ colleagues describe her as a “bright light” and submitted countless stories of her kindness for this honor. She consistently innovates new ways to spread cheer, coordinating a High School Musical dance reenactment to bring a smile to community care partners; organizing a financial support effort for an injured colleague; dressing as the Easter Bunny and Cookie Monster to visit Compassus patients in local nursing homes; and surprising patients with their favorite lunch. As hospice patients embark on their end-of-life journey, Bonds strives to make every remaining day count.
The Carlos Burruel Compassus Core Values Award is presented annually to a Compassus colleague “in recognition of a personal and professional character and heart imbued with compassion, integrity and excellence, evidenced in every interaction with patients, families and colleagues, and worthy of universal admiration and respect.”
