HARTFORD, Conn. – Compassus, a nationwide network of community-based hospice, palliative and home health care programs, has opened a new location in Hartford, Connecticut. The new location will expand access to patients and families in Hartford, Middlesex, New Haven and Tolland counties.
Compassus – Hartford provides high-quality and compassionate hospice care to improve quality of life for patients facing a life-limiting illness and their families. The supportive care team, which consists of physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains and volunteers, works together to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients, wherever they call home.
This comprehensive approach to health care continues to be underutilized throughout the United States. Studies have proven earlier access to hospice care and longer lengths of stay improve patient and family satisfaction. Yet, in Connecticut, less than half (48.6%) of Medicare decedents were enrolled in hospice at the time of death in 2017. Nationally, 40.5% of beneficiaries received 14 days or less of care.
“Our new location in Hartford will allow us to increase awareness of the benefits and access to the services available to those with serious and life-limiting illness,” said Karen Garlie, executive director. “Our goal is to help patients and families gain access to the right level of care at the right time to support and improve their end-of-life journeys.”
